Waste Container Loading Platform

Waste container loading and tarping platform

Cape May County Municipal Utilities needed a solution for their waste container loading and tarping operations. Initially considering a custom-built scaffold system, they opted for RollaStep’s MP Series Mobile Platform to improve safety for their workers. This decision allowed workers to securely load and tarp waste containers daily while minimizing risks associated with manual labor and makeshift solutions.

Key Challenges:

  • Safety Concerns: Scaffolding would have required manual assembly and presented potential safety risks.
  • Efficiency: Needed a system that allowed quick and safe tarping of waste containers.
  • Mobility: The solution needed to be easily movable alongside waste containers and removable once tasks were completed.

Solution:

The RollaStep MP Series Mobile Platform was selected to address these challenges. This mobile work platform is designed for industrial applications where safety, mobility, and stability are paramount.

  • Safe Operation: The MP Series platform provides a large 9’ x 3’ work area, allowing two workers to operate simultaneously, ensuring that the tarping process is both safe and efficient. The full-size powder-coated handrails and slip-resistant surfaces meet OSHA standards, enhancing safety during operations.
  • High Mobility: Equipped with large swivel casters, the MP Series can be easily positioned alongside the waste containers. The platform’s lightweight aluminum construction allows a single operator to maneuver it easily. Locking casters prevent unwanted movement during operation, providing stability when workers are on the platform.
  • Versatile Design: The MP Series’ modular design includes optional removable handrails, allowing customization for various tasks. For instance, workers can remove handrails to access flatbed trailers or reconfigure the platform as needed without tools, making the MP Series a versatile solution for different loading and tarping scenarios.

Results:

The implementation of the RollaStep MP Series has provided Cape May County Municipal Utilities with a reliable and safe solution for their daily operations. The platform’s mobility and ease of use have significantly improved the efficiency of waste container tarping, ensuring worker safety and reducing the potential for accidents.

Scaffolding Rental vs. Semi-Permanent Access Platforms

Renting or leasing metal scaffolding for semi-permanent or long-term applications has numerous disadvantages, including significant safety risks if not installed correctly. Regular inspections and re-certifications are necessary and costly fines if not performed on time. ErectaStep and RollaStep provide a long-term alternative to traditional scaffolding systems. ErectaStep’s patented, bolt-together design employs five modular components to create unlimited stair and access configurations, pre-engineered to meet or exceed OSHA standards. This drastically reduces the typical design and installation process from weeks to mere days, without the need for costly engineering.
